Sex: depends on whether you were born with male or female genitals and a genetic program that released male or female hormones to stimulate development of your reproductive system. Gender: refers to culturally and socially constructed differences between females and males found in meanings, beliefs, and practices associated with femininity and masculinity. Gender identity: identification with or sense of belonging to a particular sex (biologically, psychologically, socially) Gender ideologies: set of ideas about what constitutes appropriate masculine and feminine roles and behaviours. Heteronormativity: holds that heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation, and assumes an alignment between biological sex, gender identity, and gender roles. Variation in sex characteristics that do not allow distinct sex identification: transgendered. Break social norms by defying rigid gender distinctions: transsexual. After their gender, believe they were born in the wrong body. Prefer sexual partners of the opposite sex: homosexual. Prefer sexual partners of the same sex: bisexual.
