Socialization: the process by which people learn culture, roles. Behaviour expected of a person occupying a particular position in society. Identity: unleashing human potential, the way we learn culture, it is a component of our ability. If we are kept in isolation have stunted levels of interaction- interaction gives us our potential. Importance of early socialization and interaction: a sense of individual identity, in relation to others, lifelong process. Gender: learning femininity and masculinity, gender sense of self. Civilization: communal vs. idealistic, whole systems vs. discrate, gender is a social construction, it is culturally specific, it starts early in life, china has communal and whole systems, people work to together, this their thought. Social and political systems becomes communal too (best for society: greece is individualist they think differently (best for self) Primary socialisation: mastering basic skills required for society. Secondary socialization: outside the family, education, peers, media. Increasingly responsible for socialization: hidden curriculum, merit, deference, punctuality, competition.
