Stratification: layers or hierarchy"s in society, the way society is organized in layers or strata, hierarchical ranking of people into classes, rich-poor, powerful-powerless, highly-less educated, examine, shape of inequality, mobility, variability over time, micro interactions. Income: money earned over a given period: welfare state: tax and redistribution, advantages of wealth. If you are born into a family with money/that is wealthy, you will grow up to be the same/successful. If you are born with a family with disadvantages rather than advantages (money), you will grow up to be the same, or uneducated etc. Poverty: arbitrary definition, absolute or relative, income or consumption. Lico low income cut off (spending your little bits of money on necessities of life: strain from devoting a higher proportion of income (+63%) to necessities. Inequality benefits the rich and powerful: the government should not provide jobs or basic income. Mobility: ascribed or achieved status, position vs. merit, class reproduction, education -can get you through.
