Document Summary

Continued existence - of a set of social relationships. First step in the process of learning the values of society. A good indication of deviation; if you deviate, you are punished. A way of keeping people in line; don"t do any work, you get a bad grade aka punishment; if you do the work, you get a good grade aka reward. You cannot rely on human rationality; if they can get away with it, they will try to. Human right; we value the right to live; if we violate it, we are doing something wrong. If we didn"t value human life, there wouldn"t be a norm/law against killing. Laws are not as strict as they are today than previously; they are stricter; we value life more and more; The more serious the misconduct it becomes, the more people will speak up about it. The reaction becomes more serious as the deviance becomes more serious.
