Document Summary

Continued existence of a set of social relationships. They are subject to order in different ways than others. Deviance: right/wrong = moral value sociology: deviance (neutral) = science. You know theres a social order if you are punished when you deviate. Policed within you (guilt) and outside you (police, parents). Punishment reaction: gods/humans (social reaction) social reaction: informal/formal. In simple societies, you dont have as much deviation because the rules are less complex and less in number. Accepted worldview: common ways of seeing and explaining the world. Natural or social: religious doctrines, scientific theories, ideologies. Offend religious, ideological, popular views. (art or pornography) First sample mid-term test question: what are the categories of deviance? (answer: sociological, religious). Determinism (im giving these names): society is determined by laws of nature and so we can draw these laws. Contingency: human volition and so we cant draw absolute scientific laws. So dont break social order or you break divine state of things.
