SOC221H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Snowball Sampling, Quota Sampling, Simple Random Sample
Document Summary
2/2 quality of sources use them for lit. Key word is synthesis, how you bring the source together. Capture all relevant sources, what they have found, what they haven"t discussed, hence why you"re asking your own question. How do you come up with a smaller group of individuals, from a larger group of people. The way they got from their population to sample is through a sampling approach that does not rely on a random mathematical procedure. Researcher makes targeted decisions as to who will be in the sample. Interested in looking at particular social phenomenon with a lot of detail and depth. Not necessarily motivated to make sample representative of entire population. Lack of rigor, who is available at that particular time to talk about what you want to talk about. Lack of thought who is a part of the sample: quota sampling. More thought put into who will be in the sample.
