SOC334H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Adult Daycare Center, Formal System, Economic Abuse
Document Summary
Social support: the informal support older people receive from family members, formal support, family caregivers and the challenges they face, abuse and mistreatment of older people. Men get less informal support from non-spousal supporters: caregiving networks vary significantly by gender, relationships, and age in size, proximity, and composition: Living arrangements also influence how much informal or formal support an older person receives: for example, if an adult daughter lives in the same household, the older person may rely on her more than the formal system. 2 e. g. married old person will first get help from spouse and children : penning (1990) found limited support for each of these models. It is quite complex how people used help and by whom. In other case, the son might manage the formal care of the parent: campbell, connidis and davies (1999) found that siblings provide a range of support for certain groups.
