Document Summary

Rules differ from group to group but no sex allowed anywhere between parents and their children. Incest rules increase the range of property and social alliances by prescribing that people marry outside the family. Incest rules are socially as well as biologically motivated. Exogamy: e. g, gender, close kin (as defined by each society) longhouse group (amazon river tribes) Endogamy: e. g, age, social class, religion, race or ethnic group. Human survival requires first of all ways to provision people with food, clothing etc, and ways to change the environment so it will support human life. To accomplish this, humans must work in groups. How it is accomplishments by groups is studied by (anthropological) economics (=economic anthropology) Anthropologists are less interested in general rules, and more in how specific policies function within the field and they pursue the ethnographic method.
