Until about 1500 million years ago earth was lonely with only prokaryotes. Rise of multi organisms in the form of algae. What bryophytes lack in comparison to plants. Film of hydrophobic waxy layer which seals the top epidermis (top layer) and lower epidermis. Slows down the loss of water via leaf. Loss & uptake of water along whole surface loses water very quickly along its entire plant surface. However it is permeable to uptake water. (not only via roots but entire surface plants) Can be found in very moist environments because needs water to grow just like any plant ( humid environment) Therefore, rare forms of this species can be found in desert type environment. Wait till rainfall comes and photosynthesize very slowly until they desiccate again.
