Document Summary

There are three major kingdoms: bacteria, archaea, eukaryotes. Characteristics that bryophytes lack: they have no cuticle. Tree of life: cuticle is a hydrophobic waxy layer which cover the upper and lower epidermis. It used to slow down the loss of water from the surface. Lose and uptake water quickly along the whole surface: their surface is permeable in order to uptake water. They do not take up water just from the root but rather from the entire surface of the plant: they are typically found in moist areas. In contrast to most other plants, bryophytes adapt to survive a total desiccation. In addition to its transportation use vascular system serve as support which help the plant to stand upright. The absence of those two characteristics (cuticle and vascular system) make bryophytes less adaptable to terrestrial life. There are four groups that make up bryophytes.
