BIOB34H3 Lecture 20: BIOB34_Lec20
Document Summary
Animals are composed of trillions of tiny little molecule factories that transform chemical energy into order. Describe how hormone-based signals are transmitted and received in the body. Distinguish between the major classes of hormones: steroids, peptides and amines. Describe the function and organization of the pituitary gland. Understand how endocrine systems control physiology, using the examples of nutrient, water and salt homeostasis. Hormones are chemical signals they control many physiological functions and are transmitted via release into the blood. B) the cell that releases the hormone (endocrine cell) , into blood vessels of the body and travels throughout the body and attaches to receptors on target cells (receives the message from transmitting cell) Respond to particular environmental or chemical signals but wont be able to do a anything complicated- like neurosecretory cell. C) neurosecretory cell like endocrine, but have own dendrites and will calculate more complex calculations than a neuron can can send message to entire body via blood system.
