Document Summary
Basal (standard) metabolic rate: applies to endothermic animals (mammals and birds, mbr is the metabolic rate under the following conditions, trying to exclude factors that would make it high or low, bmr. It is in thermoneutral zone: put animal where they will be ding no thermoregulation bc it regulates metabolism, when animals placed in environment where they need to do thermoregulation metabolic rate goes up (ex. Atp: some protons leak across thru imm, the consequence of this is that the electron complexes expend ebergy to pump electrons back across im, many process that contribute to smr and bmr involve membranes. Membranse pacemaker hypothesis: the bmr or smrt is largely determined by its cell membranes which in turn detrmines how leaky the membranes are which detrmines how much energy must be expended to pump ions or protons back across membrane. If we change x1 x2 is the same, it is independent bc one does not affect the other.
