Document Summary

Image formation begins with light coming from an internal or external light source. The light passes through the condenser lens which concentrates the light and makes illumination of the specimen more uniform. The amount of magnification that each lens produces is marked on the lens total magnification of the specimen can be calculated by using the following formula. An ocular micrometer is a type of ruler installed in the microscope eyepiece with graduation that are unspecified and thus require calibration before any specimen can be measured. Device to calibrate the ocular micrometer is called a stage micrometer which is a slide containing a ruler with 10um and 100um markings. The stage micrometer is placed on the stage and is superimposed by the ocular micrometer the first line of the ocular micrometer must be aligned with the marks on the stage micrometer.
