BIOC32H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Urinary System, Respiratory System, Homeostasis
Document Summary
Body should be able maintain balance between compartments because then able to concentrate, move, as a functional human beings. Body is a load of the we are perform compartments pushed inside the skin. Integumentary system [skin] and there are holes within each system allowing things to be ingested [let in] or excreted [exit] depending on the system. Digestive system: ingest food that gets digested and then we expel it. Urinary system: absorbs fluids from bloodstream and kidneys and expels urine. Respiratory system: ingest air which circulates thru the body and reaching the bloodstream and interacts with other systems like muscles, brain, endocrine system. These systems are highly integrated and for them to be integrated, there is lot of communication between cells. There are important membranes between each compartment that ensures that the appropriate components move between different compartments. Most important thing that moves between these compartments is electrolytes [salts], sugars, and proteins.
