BIOC34H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Bradycardia, Cardiac Muscle, Qrs Complex
Document Summary
Electrocardiogram: ecg: measures electrical activity from the heart spreads to the surface of the body, quantifying heart rate, 3 deflections above baseline. Mean axis where electrical activity flows; 60 degrees through middle of the heart: shifting from left right = various diseases state in the heart. Arrhythmias: irregular heart rhythm superventricular (above ventricles) or ventricular: ventricular arrhythmias = dangerous. Hypertrophy: too much muscle in heart difficulty in pumping blood. Myocarditis: infection of cardiac muscle (cardi cardiac infection) Drug: digitalis effects on heart rhythm and rate. Forms einthoven"s triangle: lead i: right arm(ra) left arm (la +/-, lead ii: right arm left leg (ll, lead iii: left arm left leg (ll) Heart depolarising and spreads through out the body, so taking ecg readings from arms & chest good indication of heart rate from diff angles. Ra = negative lead, lg = positive lead, la = +/- lead.
