But can be genetic: mitochondria have dimishes function. Even the number of mitochondria in the snc is fewer: sirtuins are cytoprotective and increase longevity. Sirt1-7 exist in mammals: sirt3 is the major mitochondrial protein deacetylase. It is crucial for regulating key processes in mitochondria: elevating nigral sirt3 levels in vivo will provide a multi-pronged approach to protecting mitochondrial function.
