Stamen- male reproductive organ made up of anthers suspended on filaments. Carpel- female reproductive organ made up of the pollen landing platform, stigma which is connected to the ovary by style. Flower organs are nothing else but highly modified leaves. Protect inner flower organs before bud opens. Can be fused to form tube = calyx (fused sepals) Can be fused to form tube = corolla (fused petals) Anther- contain two pollen sacs on each side. When the pollen grains are still maturing, the individual pollen grains are attached to the internal epidermis of the pollen sac. There is a close match between the morphology of the pollen within a species and the morphology of stigma within the same species.
