-accurate measurable amount of heritability involves controlling environments, which is a

problem

-one strategy is ensuring offspring and parents have different environments in order to control

for environment effect (e.g. cross-fostering or reciprocal transplant)

-another strategy is ensuring all offspring have the same environment

-heritability is specific to a particular population in a particular environment

-even if additive variation is fixed, environment variation can change and cause heritability

changes as well
