Ovid lived and died during the reign of augustus. Got into trouble with augustus and was exiled. Wrote a poem on basically how to pick up prostitutes. Another reason was that augustus was trying to bring back the traditional values. Good family and values and stuff like that. He was thought to have an affair with augustus" daughter. Some scholars even think that the metamorphoses is a political poem against augustus and abuse of power.
