Creation story: myth comes from the greek word mythos meaning , story, plot, authoritative speech act, story with collective importance, tells us something about society or culture, different from religion. George washington and the cherry tree: emphasis on moral purpose, something that entertains, note: every culture has their own myths. And that these myths can intersect: e. g. 3 different types of myths: divine myths. Refers to the gods (not exclusively, but most of the time, and can intersect: e. g. Supernatural forces are the focus (main character) Sometimes etiological meaning it is used to explain something: usually a natural phenomenon or a cultural one, e. g. Egyptian burial myths: not to be confused with religion, legends. Myths about human characters: the hero or heroine is the main character, concept of a painful ordeal or quest. Luke skywalker, spiderman, etc: concept of divine birth, powers or unique characteristics, set in the remote past, interacts with history, but so far in the past.
