Document Summary
Alps mountains are result of africa colliding with eurasia: earthquakes of 1202 and 1759 moved 2. 1 meters in jordan. Fissure eruptions: they push the iceland apart making it bigger island, usually there is not explosive activity; can cause large flood basalts which run in lava channels, then lava tubes. Catastrophism: (cid:373)ajo(cid:396) e(cid:448)e(cid:374)ts (cid:894)ea(cid:396)th(cid:395)uake, (cid:448)ol(cid:272)a(cid:374)o(cid:895) that di(cid:272)tate a lot of ea(cid:396)th"s histo(cid:396)y. Eastern north america: origin of this margin by thinning and rifting. Icelandic plume: hot rock underneath iceland, allowing to stand on the mid-oceanic ridge, lots of volcanic activity, high latitude. Atlantic ocean was open 65 million years ago. 65 million years ago, europe was still joined with north america. North atlantic igneous province: runs right way across north atlantic. The position of the iceland plumes is fixed. Rocks that formed by eruptions over the plume 70 million years ago in iceland are now in the west side of greenland.
