Document Summary

Mercantilism: is global trade using maps of what the earth looked like. Francis bacon (1561 1620) looked at these maps and thought that some of the continents could connect to become a supercontinent. Alfred wegner was a meteorologist and was inspired by francis bacon. The nature of the rocks reflects the environment in which they were deposited. For example, igneous rocks deposited by volcanoes: three types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary (made by sediments), and metamorphic (subject to change by heat and pressure). He proposed that the continents moved by plowing through the sea floor. Salt deposits rocks comes from, tropical places. Trench: deep water and associates with subduction zone. Glacier erratic boulders: are the boulders that moved from their original destination and path. For example, the ice sheets and boulders from labrador have moved to toronto. The whole earth is circled by linear volcano ridges. Every 100 meters deeper down to earth"s centre there is a 2. 5 degree temperature increase.
