Our planet is about 4. 5 billion years old. There is a city, plymouth, on the bottom of it which got destroyed by the ash from the volcano. The surface of the earth is made up of large plates, and the plates are driven around the surface of the earth by mantle convection. Surface of the earth is very dynamic and mobile. North american plate moves about 4cm a year to the west. One plate is being pushed underneath in a slight manner which creates lesser antilles arc which are arc of islands . It is a subduction zone where north american plate is being pushed down underneath the caribbean plate creating volcanoes from the melt down where soufriere is placed. The soufriere volcano is known to be over steeped and this is caused by the magma underneath the volcano where it expands the volcano to get it ready for the next eruption.
