Wind power basics: wind is caused by (physical basis) Heating of the atmosphere from sun(cid:859)s energy. Rotation of earth: natural wind flow/motion energy when passed through wind turbines is used for generation of electricity, advantages. Wind energy plants do not emit any greenhouse gases: disadvantages. Noise: wind turbines produce some noise by the rotor blades when they operate. Aesthetic impacts: turbines are highly visible, considered by some as intrusive to the land. Nimby (not in my backyard) **#1 challenge** Wind flow = intermittent + not always blows, cannot be stored. Good wind sites are located in remote areas far from the demand (cities) Mythical flight of icarus flew too close to the sun. Created designs of hang gliders, helicopters, + other flying machines. Sir george cayley first piloted glider in 1853. Otto lilienthal (late 19th c) germany (cid:862)to invest an airplane is nothing. Perished in 1896 in glider crash: dynamics.
