Document Summary

We are on a daily basis exposed to radiation; we cannot escape as it comes from space and ground. We are exposed to background radiation- natural radioactivity in the earth (ground) and by cosmic rays from outer space. It is usually hard to control; but what we can control is manmade radiation. Some manmade radiation includes: x-ray machines, x-ray diagnostic, tv sets, microwave ovens, radar devices, and lasers these manmade radiations can be controlled. About 1/8 of exposure is manmade all the others are from natural resources. Radon gas from the ground which is the breakdown of uranium contributes to half of our exposure. From the artificial sources, our main source of exposure is from medical (different diagnostics or treatments). Generally speaking, we can divide all radiation into two groups: ionized radiation and non- ionized radiation. The blue on the left side of the picture represents ionized radiation. From yellow to red on the right, you have non-ionized radiation.
