Document Summary

Eesb15 lecture 11 - the future and challenges of political ecology. Political and economic systems are affected by non-human actors (climate, grass, bacteria, soil, livestock etc) with which they"re intertwined. Similarly, non-human actors can be affected by political and economic systems with which they interact. Non-humans can be collaborators in complex relationships, influencing people and institutions and setting the terms of economic growth and political change. Non-humans are insurgents when they"re not collaborators and resist. Political ecology, the praise and questions raised: long-answer question for final exam. Political ecology tends to focus on the poor and marginalized because they"re usually the ones to blame. Political ecology contributes to other theories and drives change. Political ecology raises questions without providing solutions or counter- narratives. Political ecology seems to contradict itself by supporting both sides. Political ecologies love the environment yet defend its destruction in certain incidences. Political ecology can be too focused on the politics, ignoring ecology.
