A lot of industrial change: market revolution: the u. s. markets transformed its economy into that of the international economy. The expanding northwest practiced the tariff in 1846. The south grew economically due to cotton (slavery) by 60% in the 1840s. By 1860, there were thousands of miles in u. s. railroads. The u. s had a major gold rush in 1849. *fun fact: the san francisco 49ers name was created/invented because of the gold rush* Prior to 1825, there was not even 10,000 immigrants coming in per year; by the 1850s, There were 2 different visions of growth (imperial) that had to do with slavery: north: expanding free soil and soul, south: expanding cotton/slavery empire. By the 1850s, the north was growing more economically than the south so removing slavery made sense.
