Document Summary

In 1800s and early 1900s disease was caused by infectious disease. Many of the disease today are more chronic disease and the causes for them are complex. Web of causation is looking at all the different determinants that impact the risk for diabetes. If we backup a little bit, those diseases were causes by other determinants. Leading cause of death is mostly chronic disease. Such as tobacco use, diet, physical activity. These are what we need to prevent. Idea that variations that are not random should be correctable. If we know people with low income are more susceptible to disease, then we should be able to use that knowledge to improve their outcome. Lower your income adequacy, the more likely you are to suffer from disease. When uneven distribution is unnecessary, avoidable, unjust or unfair. These inequities are shaped by social, political, economic factors. Risk factors are factors that are explanations for individual differences specific to that individual (biology, lifestyle)
