Document Summary

Morphology: introduction: morphology: study of words and structures, language is creative: humans have the ability to produce and understand an infinite range of sentences and words never heard before. In our mental lexicon, we store sounds from which we create words. Every time you speak, you choose words from your mental lexicon (simple) words are also stored in our lexicon. By simple, we mean that the word cannot be analyzed further. For example, the word happy is a simple word. However, unhappy is a complex word, it can be broken down. In this chapter, we will consider: what is morphology, word classes/categories, affixation, word-formation processes. Morphology: this lecture, as well as the following, is dedicated to the analysis of the structure (constituency) of words, the part of linguistics known under the name of morphology. Lina01: morphology: from greek morphos ( form") and logos ( science").
