Document Summary

New media does not replace older media mainstream or predominant media forms do not preclude or eliminate other forms. Alternatives always exist, sometimes thrive, below mainstream awareness They are not just things but rather manifest and help to organize specific ways of working, communicating and interacting. Technology and communication media do not overlap on their own. They are not independent, they are apart of society. New techniques of communication emerge, does not mean older media goes away. *new forms of media push existence of older media into margin. They are less popular, less understood and less respected. To think of media and technologies as things, but it is not a thing. Its implicated in how we do things, we adopt our ways of working around these things we use. These "things"" ask us to work in different ways, these ways in which we work = media practises.
