Chapter seven the structure of the nervous system. 2 divisions of the nervous system: the central nervous system cns, the peripheral nervous system pns. Anatomical references of a rat for example. The dire(cid:272)tio(cid:374), or a(cid:374)ato(cid:373)i(cid:272)al refere(cid:374)(cid:272)e, poi(cid:374)ti(cid:374)g toward the rat"s (cid:374)ose is the anterior or rostral (latin for beak) The dire(cid:272)tio(cid:374) poi(cid:374)ti(cid:374)g towards the rat"s tail is posterior or caudal (latin for tail) The direction pointing up is known as dorsal (latin for back) The direction pointing down is ventral (latin for belly) The rat spinal cord runs anterior to posterior. Top side of spinal cord is the dorsal and the bottom side is the ventral side. Nervous system can be divided in half bilateral symmetry. Midline the invisible line running down the middle of the nervous system. Medial structures closer to the midline.
