Document Summary

Lec 3: the development of the nervous system. Arise from the brainstem and most innervate the head. Some are part of cns and others part of somatic pns and visceral pns. Contain complex mixture of axons that carry out diff functions. Three membranes collectively called meninges covering . Three members = dura mater + arachnoid membrane, and pia mater. Forms tough bag that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Appearance and consistency resembling a spider web. If blood vessels passing through the dura are ruptured, blood can collext here and form a subdural hematoma can disrupt brain function. Thin membrane that adheres closely to surface of brain. Separated from arachnoid membrane by fluid-filled space. Subarachnoid space filled with salty clear liquid called cerebrospinal fluid (csf) Constitutes fluid-filled caverns and canals inside the brain. Csf is the fluid that runs in this system. Produced by choroid plexus in ventricles of the cerebral hemispheres.
