Executive /legislative /judicial- separation of powers to ensure that no one branch wields all power and could thus make tyranny possible. Executive branch president is in control but there are checks and balances with congress. Legislative congress = the house of representatives and the senate. The american founding fathers instituted a system of checks and balances to secure the bill of rights, a wall between the executive and legislative branches to prevent the president from wielding absolute power and thus becoming a tyrant. Need congressional approval for many things (e. g. , spending money for budgets etc. )
