Document Summary

How it enables us to learn and adapt to what we are. Learning is our behaviour given a certain environment. People did not want to study subjective things like conscious, perception etc. Western psychologists began to study s. r psychology. System starts w/ certain behavioural tendencies for reactions. People also end up producing behavioural richness much more than just hard wired behaviour. Natural, hard wired behaviour unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response. Eg. anytime a new child has food put in its mouth. Body immediately begins to turn on digestive system and body is naturally conditioned for it. Eg. if someone throws a ball at your face. Face enters defensive mode and eyes begin to blink. Very hard to overcome some natural responses like this. Eg. when hear a creepy sound, body enters into a light version of the sympathetic nervous system despite there not actually anything being there.
