Document Summary

Slide 16: pet scan looks at function rather than structure (ct, mri). The brain demands oxygen when it works, especially on the part of the brain that works. The pet can measure the radiation that is inserted into the body and that radiates out of the certain part of the brain when a certain action is performed. You can detect the blood flow patterns connected to an action, and this can be used to map the brain and behavior. Slide 17: neuroscientists are interested in healthy brains and their normal functions. Neuropsychologists look at people who had damage in their brains that produce lesions. First is more related to neuropsychologists, second to scientists. Slide 18: the brain has two hemispheres that are not connected- they are only connected by the corpus collossum, a thin fibre in the middle on which they are perched on top. Cerebral cortex is where we have the perceptive thoughts, controls and subjections.
