Document Summary
The scientific study of biological, cognitive, social, and personal development throughout the life span and a major issue is the nature-versus-nurture question. Nature referring to heredity and nurture referring to environmental influence. Cross-sectional study looks at a number of groups all at the same time, but of different age groups. You can make inferences based on the data collected. Longitudinal study follows the same group of people across that age span. This takes a very long time and participants back out sometimes. Cohort effects is that there could be a difference that isn"t based on age which is why cross-sectional studies aren"t ideal. Human conception begins when a sperm penetrates the membrane of an ovum; when two combine. Germinal begins with the formation of the zygote and ends after about 2 weeks, when the outer portion of the zygote"s developing cluster of cells has attached itself to the uterine wall.
