Document Summary

During the 1960s in america, tests started to become prominent to determine the intelligence in black children in harlem, new york vs. white children in another suburb. They tried to determine a person"s iq by making them perform tests (binet-simon tests) which had certain tasks such as verbal oriented problems, quantitative problems, etc. The black children did worse on the tests than the white children, and was used to as proof to make segregated schools. These tests were in english which made it hard for the black children since they spoke slang in harlem. One of the slang languages was called jive. A test was then made in jive and was distributed to both the white and black children. The results that came from the first test changed since the black children did better on the test than the white children did.
