He is an important figure in both developmental psychology and educational psychology. He was inspired by the stages of development which freud discovered. He suggested that there are 4 stages of cognitive development: sensorimotor: is from birth to two years. The cognitive development is connected to external stimulation and understanding the characteristics of objects. They have trouble with object permanence, which is when objects stay for a long period even if it is out of sight. Children believe that when objects move away from its sight, it disappears. Children are egocentric at this point since: preoperational: from 2 7 years old. For example, if the child wants ice cream the parents come up with reasons to not give the child ice cream. They have trouble with conservation, which is when they need to learn that different forms can have the same amount.
