Document Summary

Compare and contrast three basic theories of emotion. How emotional regulation develops throughout the lifespan. A positive or negative experience in response to a stimulus and associated with a particular pattern for physiological activity. E. g. fear- historically we experienced fear to stay safe (from potential threats) Allows us to stay socially connected to other people and that was a safe box as well. Common sense (very basic sense of emotions) These theories disagree on what causes emotion. Holds that the stimulus in the environment triggers a (automatic) physiological response, and that physiological response activates an emotional response. According to this theory, every emotion has its own unique set of physiological. Bear increased heart rate experience of fear responses. Identical responses are associated with several different emotions. Holds that the stimulus activates the physiological and emotional state simultaneously. Unlikely that arousal and emotion are entirelly disconnected.
