A lot of what is done in psychology is about the avg. person. In intelligence and personality (field), study individual differences and look at how different individuals are different from the avg. Important to realize differences because creates useful (also controversial) information o. In high school, specific programs to help students exceed their thinking(gifted program) and is controversial. Someone who winning awards and have a social life and good friends- thought to be intelligent o. Whether or not he"s academically intelligent is another question. An ability to measure intelligence might be beneficial in a number of ways but also can be very controversial o o o. Benefit: allows you to asses whether certain educational approaches lead to higher levels of success. A popular belief at one time was that intelligence was some thing a child got from families or parents. If that"s was the case a lot of hat we do wouldn"t change intelligence.
