Moivaion: concerns the physiological and psychological processes underlying the iniiaion of behaviours that direct organisms toward speciic goals: these iniiaing factors, or moives, include thoughts, feelings, sensaions and bodily process that lead to goal-directed behaviour. Humans, like many other species of animals, are highly moivated to form social bonds. Physiological aspects of hunger: homeostasis of food intake is balanced b/w hunger moives and saiaion. A growling stomach tells us we"re hungry (example of a hunger moive) Saiaion: the point in a meal when we are no longer moivated to eat: the on and of switches involved in hunger can be found in a few regions of the hypothalamus. Lateral hypothalamus: causes rats to eat (serves as an on switch) Ventromedial region: serves as an of switch (damage to this region can lead to obesity) Hypothalamus detects changes in the level of glucose.
