Children came up with schemas cognitive adaptation: assimilation interpretation of present schemes. Assimilate new information and update scheme i. e. new colours: accommodation modification of present schemes to fit new experiences. Update schema i. e. different animals with 4 legs and fur. Stages of cognitive development: sensorimotor birth to 2 years, preoperational 2 to 7 years, concrete operational 7 to 12 years, formal operational 12+ The notions of maturation, and the stage like (think prerequisites) nature of cognitive maturation. The importance of operations, schemata, and the processes of assimilation versus accommodation: complete one stage to get to the other. The preoperational period here the child begins learning how to think logically and how to use symbols especially language.
