People can show mindless compliance = placebic information; usually when the cost is low. People tend to do favors for others who helped them in the past. Door in the face: large request that is denied, followed by smaller one. Foot in the door: small request that is accepted, then larger request; when someone does a small thing, they are more likely to do a bigger thing. Reason could be that you think of yourself as someone who agrees with the smaller thing done. Both positive ad negative moods can increase compliance. When in + mood, you comply to keep your up mood. When in - mood, you comply because it feels better to say yes to someone (negative affect) Is it that the people want to make themselves feel better, or that they feel bad and want to help others in which they ruined something about. Research shows that guilt produces more compliance than negative affect.
