Any behavior aimed at causing either physical or psychological pain: hostile aggression. Aggression in which causing pain or harm is the only goal: instrumental aggression. Aggression in which the pain or harm caused is a means to some other goal. Robbing a bank, winning a sport, self-defense: can be overlap bw hostile and instrumental aggression. A dispute might start out as instrumental aggression and progress into hostile aggression usually escalating arguments that may turn into physical aggression. Higher temperatures are related to higher rates of aggression. More violent crimes occur in summer months. More acts of violence occur in cities that have higher average temperature.
