Science is a subfield of philosophy, tries to test theories through observations: it"s a five step process: Examine past knowledge/research (as well as your own intuitions maybe to double check) Form a theory (taking these past observations and then forming them into theories) Operationalize the theory into a hypothesis (when formulating a research question this is the theory, we need to translate these constructs into something that is very concrete and observable and therefore we can collect with numbers (involving quantities)) Revise theory (a real theory one that has value and impact will not be stagnant, won"t stay the same overtime. If a theory hasn"t changed in a number of years we can say that the theory is dead! We collect observations from masses (a whole group of people) The variable that you want to be able to predict (in her example, you really want to understand aggression so that would be the outcome)
