Ovulation the primer to conception: need ovulation for a natural birth to occur, follicular phase ovarian follicles mature estrogen levels peak towards the end. Occurs before ovulation: controlled by the hypothalamus luteinizing hormone secreted. Women perform urine tests for fsh to see when they start ovulation. Ovulation is triggered by a spike in the fsh. Out of 28 day cycle, day 1 is when your period starts. Day 14, you get a spike, which means ovulation starts. Infertility inability to conceive after 12 months of trying. Lower than 60mill sperm count is considered low. Too many obstacles for sperm so they need a lot of sperm: insufficiently motile sperm, genetic. Women: failure to produce eggs/ova/normal ova. Menopause, or anorexia or something causes failure to produce egg: mucus in the cervix. Sperm die before they reach egg: disease in the uterine lining. Egg cant leave fallopian tube and the sperm can"t get to it. Alternative ways to parenthood art or adoption.
