PSYB20H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Classical Conditioning, Intelligence Quotient, Fluid And Crystallized Intelligence
Document Summary
Psyb20 lecture 6 cognitive development birth to 3 & early childhood. A strong dislike for a food after a negative experience. Ex. rats that had been exposed to a nausea-causing radiation developed an aversion to flavoured water after the radiation and the water were presented together. Sometimes pleasant memories can come to mind when a person smells something. Little albert initially showed no fear of a white rat, but after the rat was paired repeatedly with loud, scary sounds, the child would cry when the rat was present. The child"s fear also generalized to other fuzzy white objects. Operant conditioning: learning based on reinforcement or punishment, either positive or negative, tend to repeat behaviors that leads to favorable outcomes, used in research to ask babies questions about what they know. Intermittent reinforcement inconsistent response to the behavior of another person. Make behaviors resistant to extinction: e. g. attention & time-out.
