Document Summary
Variation, inheritance, and selection: organisms of any species manifest variation. Some of us are taller, some are not, some have good cognitive abilities, some have poor cognitive abilities. Some of these differences in design are inheritable. Some, not all of them: our designs impact our rates of production. For example, the long neck of the giraffe was selected. Sexual selection: evolution of adaptive characteristics because of the reproductive benefits bestowed on those who have them. Sehar qureshi: the goal is not to only survive, but to reproduce, there are two ways in which sexual selection occurs: Intrasexual competition - competition within a given sex. For example, bigger males with bigger horns in stags, have better chances of winning in fights, and thus a better chance at mating with females. For example, peahens are attracted to bright plumage. If a peacock has bright plumage, it is easy for it to be spotted by predators.
