Document Summary
What else might explain why/how employers hire university graduates: competition on job forces cause upward spiral of education qualification, credential inflation, too many well qualified applicants hr/employers do not have time to look at numerous applications. They need ways to limit down the # of applications through: bureaucratic screening device: increase educational qualification. It screens out applicants even if the job itself is not complex or demanding: e. g. sales job in the past, it would mostly be hs students. Nowadays, undergraduates are in sales: teachers not all of them had degrees in the past, professionalization, raised entry educational requirements leads to raised status and prestige of occupation and firm. Also demand of higher salary: customer/clients have more trust in a firm/employees who have degrees. Educated : critics, professionals work just as effectively w/o university degrees no evidence that in the past, they were incapable.
