We study child development to help children by maximizing potential and minimizing harms caused to children by various environmental factors, biological factors, caregiver factors, nutrition factors, etc. Guide policy meaning government policies, school board policies, etc. about what kinds of programs to provide for children and what kinds of restrictions to put on certain organizations that needs to be responsible for looking after children. A lot of these policies come from experts in child development in terms of age, what needed to be taught, etc. It helps people who interact with children in other settings and community services. Learned doesn"t mean you learned it in school, it means you received a reinforcement from the environment or saw someone else do it and acquired the behaviour. All human characteristics aren"t strictly biological or environmental but a combination of both. Continuous change as in the person builds on what they learned before. They"re cumulative and differ from each other in quantity.
